MIDWAY AIRPORT VIDEO KIOSK

The Client Challenge:

What does Chicago have to do with Midway, an obscure island in the Pacific Ocean? There are some fascinating connections that tie Chicago to one of the most critical battles in World War II. Midway Airport was renamed in 1949 to honor this battle. With the help of several corporate sponsors, Midway Airport has installed a restored SBD dive bomber and supporting information kiosks to commemorate this historical battle.

How Iona Helped:

What were the stories that needed to be told? How to best tell them? The Iona Group worked with several subject matter experts to develop 15 video segments to tell travelers the stories of the men, the planes and how Chicago was involved with this famous conflict. Because there was a lack of images and other visual assets, Iona conducted research to uncover new assets and, in many cases, created original animation to tell the stories in a visually engaging and memorable manner.

Connection Made:

Thousands of travelers a day walk past this exhibit and many stop and browse the history lessons offered on the 3 kiosks. Each of the 15 videos is offered as individual segments to the visitor. The visitor can spend as long as they want browsing different stories and getting an authentic viewpoint of this epic battle. The sponsors are extremely pleased with the exhibit and feel that it has truly captured the essence of the battle. Visitors indicate that the combination of the large historical artifact and supporting videos is a very exciting way to learn more about this unique piece of history.
